about

On March 28th 2014 Bill Jenkins, a member of the Virginia Musical Hall of Fame, created history by performing a second time at the National Press Club with a 50 year break between shows. In the Club's 108 year existence only one other performer had ever appeared for a 50th Anniversary Show.....His name was Jack Benny. In 1964, three young teenager, Bill Jenkins and the two Cottingham brothers, Robert and Russell, were playing "Hootenannies" in the D.C. area when their talent was noticed by the Washington correspondent for the Richmond Times Dispatch. He was greatly impressed by their musical ability and that they were playing "traditional" mountain music at such an early age. He arranged for the three young men to put on a one-hour evening performance at the National Press Club. They were well received but were not paid. Fifty years later, Bill Jenkins and the Virginia Mountain Boys, and Robert Cottingham, were invited to perform this historic 50th Anniversary Show. The audience was composed of the most sophisticated group of individuals that could possibly be assembled, yet they were clapping their hands, stomping their feet, and shouting out "YEHAWS" like any other Bluegrass crowd. This, universally loved but seldom heard music, refuses to die and hopefully will be appreciated forever. Enjoy the show.
